Sadly Silver

Today is a Wayback Wednesday of a different sort. This is my brother, William circa 1985. Ten years later, 25 years ago TODAY, he moved to the next life ahead of us.⁣

25 years sounds like a long time and it is. In that time, I’ve lived on both sides of the country, received two masters degrees, had two children, and bought a home. ⁣

E =my heart x time squared?

Yet, the heart often knows no sense of time. In living proof of Einstein’s relativity, my heart will demonstrate the strength brought on by years of beating one day and other moments will be struck anew by the pain of Will’s loss as if it has happened today.⁣

Life is made real by death. It is a hard truth but in its finality, a vitality and beauty is given to each breath. My brother gave me many gifts in his almost 21 years, as well as frankly many grimaces, groans, and frustrations, but this gift... the gift of living with presence and joy, to shine as brightly as I can, this is by far, his greatest gift.⁣
