What's Happening -- Broadway in Austin's 2016-17 Season
One of my favorite things is the Lexus Broadway in Austin presented by Texas Performing Arts. Every year I look forward to the season announcement and this year is no different. In fact, it may be one of the best years ever.
Introducing Broadway in Austin's 2016-17 Season

The new year (January 27 – January 28, 2017) brings back an Austin favorite, "Mamma Mia!" It's a personal favorite. I dare you to watch this fun take on young love, lost love, and mistaken identities without smiling. The ABBA score, which includes “Dancing Queen,” “S.O.S.,” “Super Trouper,” “Take A Chance on Me” and “The Winner Takes It All,” demands nodding of the head, tapping of the feet, and yes, singing along. Trust me, you won't sit still!

Being a huge Carole King fan, I cannot wait for the next musical offering -- "Beautiful - The Carole King Musical". "Tapestry" is one of my all-time favorite albums that I have owned in multiple formats from LP to MP3. I will be counting the days until March 21! The show will run through March 26, 2017.
Simply Beautiful!

In 1989, I saw the original Broadway run of Phantom of the Opera as a part of a high school drama trip. I came home singing Andrew Lloyd Weber nonstop. I loved every bit of the show -- the drama, the music, and all the theatricality. If there is something Weber does well, it's theatricality. In the last 27 years, I have never seen anything quite like it. Therefore, I am eager to see this new production.Critics are even saying that this production is “bigger and better than ever before” and features a brilliant new scenic design. Count me in!The Phantom will swing in April 19-30, 2017,

Uh, Oh... There is "Something Rotten" coming to Austin!
Finally, the season closes with "Something Rotten." I've not seen this show so I am excited to see this telling of the writing of the first, EVER musical. Set in 1595, it follows Nick and Nigel Bottom, two brothers who are desperate to write a hit play. A local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time. Boy, was she right! The two Bottom brothers then venture out to bring the future of theatre to fruition!
