What's Happening -- Broadway in Austin Presents Newsies
EXTRA, EXTRA...
It's that time again. Broadway in Austin is opening the 2016-17 Season with the Tony-award winning musical, "Newsies". Based on the real-life ‘Newsboy Strike of 1899, Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy leads a ragged band of teenaged ‘newsies,’ in a strike against publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst when they chose to raise prices threatening the livelihood of these street boys. The original 1992 film developed a cult following, especially after the DVD release. It was brought to the Broadway stage featuring features a Tony® Award-winning score with music by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, a book by four-time Tony® Award winner Harvey Fierstein.
Personally, I can't wait to strike out and join Jack Kelly's boys!!!
